Now that the Vice Presidential debate is over and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin appears to have learned to speak in half-way coherent sentences (though she didn't answer many of the questions asked of her).
And McCain-Palin has slipped in several, if not all, national polls.
And McCain-Palin has watched their lead in crucial battleground states shrink.
And realizing in all probability that they might lose the state in November, the McCain-Palin team has pulled out of Michigan.
And bad economic news has proven to be a drag on McCain Palin approval ratings.
And as it becomes more apparent that McCain-Palin needs to change the subject,
Good one pretty. Palin did sound more rehearsed, but not more knowledgeable. And she actually didn't have an answer to many of the questions. She just switched the subject. I am very happy with Biden. He stated all very clearly and didn't run too long, over stating his case. I am happy he didn't attack either. He was gracious and patient, but all points were address when she erred in her statements. After all, Biden does now McCain and his record so much better that Plin does. Still Palin didn't do a good job of supporting McCains platform, and would go back to herself and Alaska. Gwen Ifil did a great job of moderating. Bravo!!!
Apparently, she's not the only one who's asking the same question. A simple internet search would show you that, as well as listening to the talk shows this morning - they are asking the same thing.
Why?
Because McCain is LOSING!
He doesn't have any real merit left on the things that Americans want to hear about, so EVERYONE is expecting what the Republicans do best, divert from the real issues at hand to National Enquirer type material. Keeping folks focus on BS and made-up drama.
Sounds like the Republicans aren't the ones bringing this up...the Democrats are...in true form...bringing something up and then blaming the Republicans.

Exactly, I saw the same question asked on one of the major News networks. They asked should McCain start attacking culturally i.e. Rev Wright, Michelle Obama not being proud of being American, etc...It is pretty sad that instead of staying on the facts that it would automatically switch to things that Obama had no control over whereas the problem McCain and Palin have are themselves.
Who are saying these things? Now how would it look for that statement if I told you it was on Fox News Network but I just with held the name because Fox always seems to get a bad rap? You would have to know who said it in order to just pin in on Democrats and no it was not them though they did engage in the conversation but it was a Republican journalist on MSNBC....
For lyrical: The Rev. Wright for the Supreme Court?
A group of conservative legal activists doesn't exactly suggest that, but it is releasing an ad featuring Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. and two other controversial figures from Barack Obama's life as part of an effort to bring attention to the issue of Supreme Court nominees and raise questions about the candidate's judgment.
The new ad is paid for by the Judicial Confirmation Network, a group closely associated with the successful confirmations of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.
The ad would run nationally on Fox, tied to the court's resumption of oral arguments on Monday, and in the battleground states of Ohio and Michigan.
Who is saying these things? Democrats, that's who.
Come on now...
Come on now....
Do your ressearch. It's not that hard. But I forgot, that might mean you and others who live in that alternate reality might come in contact with the truth...FACTS!
So if you want to know, really want to know who is saying this or that, turn on your TV and go to CNN, Fox, CBS, MSNBC, etc., etc., etc. ..... go to a search engine and type in a search string and it will return the information that you desire.
Since this blog conversation with some of the current parties is about as useful as that bridge to nowhere.....
How is everyone doing?
Have you ladies (and you guys can chime on in there as well) seen the latest shoe designs that are being marketed to us this fall?
Home & Garden has some wonderful design tips in it's current issue.
I'm debating to renew my real estate license that I got for the hell of it.
I received an invitation to a tea party. Does anyone else like scones? Some folks tend to make them a bit dry, but that is easily corrected with a good clotted cream and some jam.
Oh well.... it would be so nice for some other reasonable folks to join this exchange.
Doesn't matter whether they say it or not lyrical, their surrogates will speak on their behalf and it inflicts as much damage or more as it would if it came directly from Palin or McCain.
Plus, you said Democrats were bringing up this stuff, and that was inaccurate. Now you're back-peddaling, which is fine but at least acknowledge the facts.
Reverend Wright was correct, America is Dammed. I am sure they don't want to validate Rev. Wright so I don't see this happening not by them. On the otherhand, it may happen with Sean Hannity or one of the other Right-Wing taking head buffoons.

Pretty (Diva, Roe), what do you think about that upcoming debate this Tuesday?

Too late marxist, a conservative group is launching an ad this weekend featuring Rev. Wright.

Yes, but the point of this blog was when will they resurface him to distract from the issues and to stop their (McCain/Palin campaign) hemorrhaging at the polls. Folks have already started asking this very same thing.
And Rev. the morning show host I was trying to remember is called Morning Joe.
Rev. Wright is such a non issue that they have spun it about as much as they could to do damage. bringing it back up at this point is possible but won't help a damn thing at this point for repubs.

But we all know just how intelligent some folks are, even so-called college educated people. Which is probably what "they" are banking on.
You know the funniest thing about the Rev Wright non-issue, is the fact that some of those pundits tried to associate his comments with Obama yet said that Phil Gramm's comments had nothing to do with McCain. I couldn't help but think "You mean to tell me that the statement's of Obama's FORMER pastor made not in his presence represent him, but the statements of John McCains CHEIF FINANCIAL ADVISOR in regards to the ECONOMY AND THE AMERICAN PUBLIC do not reflect in any way on McCain". It was at that point that I started to SMH. And I have been shaking it ever since

yes... and McCain's current or former pastor... i.e. saying the Jews brought the holocaust on themselves [or something similar] how did that get buried so effectively?

it is always helpful if you are posting something directly from a source to post the source.
My only wish is that people wouldn't be so partisan when it comes to the issues.
Rising debt is neither Democratic or Republican. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan is neither Democratic or Republican. Stagnating wages, neither Democratic or Republican.
The rising number of working people without health insurance, rising cost of college tuition, the diversion of college scholarships to the wealthy, rising gas and food prices, the dwindling ability to accumulate wealth... none of these issues are Democratic or Republican.
This is what I try to impart on this blog.
Whether we elect a Democratic or Republican candidate to the White House, we have to hold their feet to the fire regardless. And we still have to contend with a Congress, bought off by corporate lobbyists.
Thanks for saying what needs to be said... this is politics (the smoke they blow into our eyes). We should be more passionate about the policy, which always gets lost in the process.
That's why this blog is calld "Smoke & Passion," I write about both here in hopes of getting people's attention, if only for a few minutes.
The only thing that they could bring up that could hurt Obama is a sex tape with him and some white woman. They can't even sucessfully bring Bill Ayers into the picture, so Jeremiah Wright would be a lame attempt in my book. At this point in the game, I'd like to think that the electorate is sophisticated enough to see through the BS.
bill, with all due respect, you're much smarter than many Americans.
That said, Rev. Wright is Barack Obama's former pastor. He, like Frederick Douglas and Martin Luther King, preaches black liberation theology, which in my opinion helped create the backbone of the black middle class. Black liberation theology acknowledges American racism for erecting obstacles in the path of social upward mobility for African Americans, but also teaches and instills motivation for overcoming these obstacles.
Conservatives, however, believe Wright and his theology to be unpatriotic, un-Christian, and racist.

I see the un-American Committee is alive and well, then.

Also as an F.Y.I, the Liberation Theology movement actually started in South America with Roman Catholoic priests, who inspite of Rome's objections, used this method on how to combat poverty, injustice, etc. with the poor people in their parishes.
This idea was in cooperated into the civil rights movement in America during the 1960's, which I'm sure was seen as a threat to the status quo in charge in America.
Bill Ayers made a re-appearance this weekend, I'm still waiting on Rev. Wright.
Ahhh, the politics of personal destruction... alive and well!
You know Pretty, we primarily registered white US Citizens (from various walks of life), and of course and folks from a variety of countries who became new citizens yesterday. Most people (referring to the citizens born here) kept saying how important this election is, and they had to vote as they have had enough of what's going on.
Mind you, we were doing NONPARTISAN voter registration, so although there was not an ounce of candidate literature around us, folks felt the need to share their sentiment as they completed their registration forms.
Then when they learned we all were simply VOLUNTEERS trying to do our part in the community, they thanked us for taking our Saturday to do voter registration.
Most people (referring to the citizens born here) kept saying how important this election is, and they had to vote as they have had enough of what's going on.
I'm cautiously hopeful people will actually THINK this time around before casting their votes.
We can ill-afford to vote for a person based on whether we'd like to have a beer with them. Nor can we just vote for a person based on their skin color either.
Hopefully substance will triumph over personality. I'm not convinced, but I'm more optimistic than a week or so ago.

I'm not convinced either. PERSONALLY, I think is Barack wasn't 1) named Barack Obama; 2) Didn't look like he does, even with his multicultural background; 3) had his current credentials - IT WOULD BE A NO BRAINER!
But given that 1) his name is Barack Obama and not John Smith (or something that); 2) in spite of us multicultural background, when one looks at him "they" see a BLACK MAN; 3) had his current credentials - IT'S A PROBLEM FOR MOST IN AMERICA!!!! Even some of us!
IT'S A PROBLEM FOR MOST IN AMERICA!!!! Even some of us!
True, I have a conservative, African American friend, who lives in a suburb of Dallas who is like this. He is a member of Project 21, and does some editing for a leading conservative "news" website.
Rather than focus on the economy, the wars, or rising poverty he is one of the people leading the charge on some lawsuit demanding Barack Obama produce his original birth certificate. This friend claims that Obama wasn't born in America, and hence, has no right to run for U.S. President.
Now, I don't know about you but I don't have my original birth certificate. And even if I did, won't a certified copy from the state that claims my birth suffice?
Not in this black man's eyes.
The typical American psyche never ceases to amaze me!
This, and the reasons you list above, are the reasons we can't call this election.

Yeah, I have heard this ignornant stance before, especially for a "as a College History Professor" guy on here.
Let me say this.
I WAS NOT BORN WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES, NOR in either ALASKA (thank God!!!) and HAWAII.
But I am a United States Citizen by birth.
How?
Because both of my parents are US Citizens (although, only 1 has to be). Given that, plus I wasn't born within the continual US, I'm a citizen. Plus that and the fact I was born what's considered US soil in Germany (West Germany at the time) on a US Army base. The same story as McCain.
So that whole argument about Obama not being a US citizen is just pure bullsh*t!!!!
He could have been born on Mars, but because his dear departed Mother was a US citizen, that automatically makes him one.
If folks want to question citizenship, I think their efforts would be better put to use of questioning American citizenship of children born here to Illegals.
Bill Ayers made a re-appearance this weekend, I'm still waiting on Rev. Wright.
Ahhh, the politics of personal destruction... alive and well!
Umm you forgot all Obama's fault. He was responsible for every single sermon good or bad that Wright has preached over his 20 yr relationship with the man.

True.
Any when Ayers supposedly embarked on his "terrorism," Obama was only 8 years old. But such facts won't stand in the way of those who practice the politics of destruction.

I wrote this blog Thursday night after the debate. On Friday, Barack Obama was talking about healthcare - an important issue - while Sarah Palin and John McCain talked about other things. Check it out:
I've seen the clips on the shows this am. They have to talk about non-issues because they aren't working with much. And the folks who attend those events, well, you have to wonder about their level of intelligence. I mean, while our country is crumbling all around us, this is all they have to talk about and stand their for what 1.5 hours and listen to?
Well, I guess it's just me that doesn't see how what they are talking about adds any value to individual lives or the overall life of our country.
Yet there are some who would like to believe it is democrats who bring up these things. He has no recourse and there are actual issues that affect the country-Wright and Ayers do not affect me at all and they have absolutely no business in politics. But I am just a peon.
Palin Questions McCain Decision to Not Hit Obama on Wright

Palin Questions McCain Decision to Not Hit Obama on Wright
New York Times columnist William Kristol asked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, if the campaign is hitting Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for his connections to William Ayers, why wouldn't they go after his much closer connection to Rev. Jeremiah Wright?
"To tell you the truth, Bill, I don’t know why that association isn’t discussed more," Palin said,
"because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country, and to have sat in the pews for 20 years and listened to that —with, I don’t know, a sense of condoning it, I guess, because he didn’t get up and leave — to me, that does say something about character. But, you know, I guess that would be a John McCain call on whether he wants to bring that up."
This comes after Palin publicly questioned another McCain campaign decision, to stop trying to full compete in Michigan.
"I want to get back to Michigan, and I want to try," Palin told Fox News' Carl Cameron. "Todd and I, we’d be happy to get back to Michigan. We’d be so happy to speak to the people there in Michigan who are hurting."
To tell you the truth, I don't understand why Palin's association with Ted Stephens and the jailed Veco former founder/CEO, and her other associations.
Palin Questions McCain Decision to Not Hit Obama on Wright

HA!
I knew Wright was going to make a comeback. Politicians can't resist going after frivolous and spinning non-issues into issues, most often when they are operating from a position of weakness.
Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess.
"To tell you the truth, Bill, I don’t know why that association isn’t discussed more," Palin said,
"because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country, and to have sat in the pews for 20 years and listened to that —with, I don’t know, a sense of condoning it, I guess, because he didn’t get up and leave — to me, that does say something about character.
well, that says something else to me about her character... but then, of course, the mother of 5 running for V.P. is probably too damned busy to check her facts... [no excuse I know...her fault is speaking before finding facts and taking on too much]
from a blog I posted earlier...[if we have to go back many months, as I know it was said then by some who bother with detail]
Newsweek - July: You said you didn't hear a lot of the sermons at Trinity. How often did you go?
Obama: At the beginning, we went fairly frequently. We were single, so I'd say we probably went two or three times a month. When we had Malia, our first child, we went less frequently, and that probably continued for a couple of years, just because— I don't know if you've had the experience of taking young, squirming children to church, but it's not easy* … As they got older, we would go back a little more frequently, probably twice a month. But then I started campaigning for the United States Senate, and at that point I was in church every Sunday, maybe two, three churches a Sunday, but they weren't Trinity—because that was one of the most effective ways for us to campaign and reach out to people. So, there was quite a big chunk of time, especially during the Senate race, where we might not have gone to Trinity for two, three months at a time. http://smudge77.multiply.com/journal/item/159/Barack_Obama_talked_to_NEWSWEEKs_Lisa_Miller_and_Richard_Wolffe_about_how_faith_plays_into_his_everyday_life
* I know exactly what he means and you really don't get chance to enter into the service...I spent a lot of my time in the nursery at church or kid's work when mine were little, and so did my husband.
Smudge, you know when it comes to politics, facts don't matter.
thing is PBE as a fellow Christian I KNOW that many care about these things, like accuracy, and wouldn't do it...I do believe she has faith, but she is letting all charismatic Christians down by many of these things....we get criticised and misunderstood enough as it is. I won't be personal about her family [I have a teenage daughter, and son, too] BUT, when it comes to her criticising others, she should do it in an honourable way if it's necessary [if you know what I mean] That is where Obama has much greater character.
It's funny how they turn on each other like a pack of wild dogs with a fresh kill, when it's convenient.
And life and the elements hasn't been to kind to him in the aging process.
Trust me, it is all theatrics for the amusement of the populist. Right now, there is so much going on that the populists are totally unaware of because they are fixated upon this election.
Trust me, it is all theatrics for the amusement of the populist. Right now, there is so much going on that the populists are totally unaware of because they are fixated upon this election.
You got that right!
There is so much happening that I can barely keep up... it's overwhelming.
Stock market tanks again today due to global sell-off Surge in Iraq isn't really working the way gov't tells us U.S. Payments to Sunni and Shiiites that have kept them from killing troops and each other may soon stop Rising violence in Afghanistan, not enough troops on the ground Every kind of health issue known to man Poverty up Wages down Unemployment up Recession looms... or we're already there
It makes me tired just thinking about all the stuff we need to worry over. And Palin's ignorance about Rev. Wright aint' one of them!
